Jaloux de l'attention qu'ont reçus Troy et Gabriella,
lors de la comédie musicale du lycée, Ryan et Sharpay
 décident de restituer l'ordre normal de la vie, selon eux.
 Ils décident alors de séparer les 2 amoureux avant le concours
 de talent de la ville. Pour cela, Sharpay fait semblant de se
noyer sachant que cet été, Troy est sauveteur à la piscine.
Ryan va voir Gabriella et lui dit qu'il a vu Troy et Sharpay
discuter ensemble. Gabriella est surprise et décide de
vérifier par elle même lorsqu'elle voit son homme en train de
faire du bouche-à-bouche à la jolie blonde. Elle croit qu'il
l'embrasse, ce qui entraine une crise dans le couple
Troy/Gabriella et donne l'avantage à Ryan et Sharpay
pour le concours, Troy et Gabriella ne s'adressant
plus la parole.
